Once upon a time, a very little me made a Christmas decoration out of one of my mam’s tampons. I drew a smiley face and insisted it go front and centre on the tree. 

Sadly, that original masterpiece is mysteriously missing from among the many childhood decorations that still adorn my mothers tree but this year, I’m making things right.
